Protect Yourself From the Sky-High Expense of an Emergency Airlift

July 27, 2020

As the Emergency Medical Transport team loaded Rick onto the helicopter, he remembered the last time he had a medical emergency. That time he was home and felt a sharp pain in his chest. Fearing a heart attack, but also the expense of an ambulance ride, he called an Uber to take him to the hospital.

This time was different. Rick was one of the victims involved in a multi-car accident on the Sunshine Skyway Bridge, and his injuries might be extensive. In order to get him to the best care as quickly as possible, he was being emergency airlifted. Knowing that an emergency airlift was even more expensive than an ambulance, his dark sense of humor left him thinking, “Am I going to need another ambulance once I get the bill for this ride?”

Fortunately for Rick, there was good news and, thanks to smart planning, more good news. First, the surgeons were able to minimize the damage from the injuries. Several months and a lot of physical therapy and they’re all optimistic he’ll be as good as new. Even better, Rick realized after his Uber trip to the hospital that accidents and medical issues are a reality of life. He decided to plan ahead and be prepared and got a policy with Medical Air Services Association (MASA).

Medicare may not cover all of your medical transportation costs. A ground ambulance could cost thousands of dollars, and air transport can be $50,000 or more. It's important to cover the gaps with a medical transportation membership available through IRTA and MASA. You’ll get best-in-class emergency transportation 24/7 from home or anywhere in the world, plus transportation of vehicles, children, grandchildren, and even pets at no additional cost. No copays, deductibles, or other hassles.

Protect yourself from the high costs of ambulances and medical airlifts. Learn more about MASA medical transportation memberships at www.AMBAmedtransport.com or call (877)290-3170.
