This Month’s Recipe: Holiday Snickerdoodles

Snickerdoodles are a staple of holiday get-togethers. And no wonder: they’re a delicious combination sugar and cinnamon cookies.
This holiday variation of the classic cookie was sent in by a reader in Oklahoma – and you and your loved ones going to love them. They’re made with festive holiday spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, and peppermint and rolled in colored sugar or sprinkles.
Here’s the Snickerdoodle dream: they should be chewy and melt in your mouth. They should be soft, tender, and bursting with cinnamon flavor. They should have a gentle tart flavor that differentiates them from a mere sugar cookie rolled in cinnamon. They should have a little crispness on the outside edge.
This recipe makes 18 wonderful cookies that your guests will definitely want seconds on!
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 1 cups softened butter
- 2 eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
- ½ teaspoon peppermint extract
- 3 ½ cups flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
TOPPING
- 3 tbsps red and green sugar sprinkles
- 2 tsps cinnamon
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375.
- In a mixing bowl, combine sugar and butter.
Once the mixture is smooth, add eggs and vanilla. Mix until you get a smooth consistency. - In a different bowl, mix dry ingredients. Slowly stir them into the butter mixture until the cookie dough is well mixed.
- Mix the sugar and cinnamon on a plate. Then roll the balls of cookie dough through it.
- Place each ball of cookie dough on cookie sheet and press down to flatten.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes.
- Enjoy!
